Each winter, when the northern seas freeze over, the Arctic Explorer Icebreaker heads out from Piteå to keep vital sea routes open. Now international visitors can step aboard and experience life on a real working icebreaker during a memorable two-hour Arctic expedition.

Guests are welcomed on board and invited to explore the ship from top to bottom. Walk through the powerful engine room, visit the Captain’s bridge and learn how this impressive vessel breaks through thick sea ice to maintain safe navigation in the Arctic waters.

The journey continues out into the frozen archipelago where the icebreaker carves a path through the solid sea. At one point the ship stops and guests are invited to step directly onto the frozen sea, a rare and surreal experience.

For those looking for the ultimate Arctic moment, the highlight awaits.. floating among the ice in a warm survival suit in the dark winter water, safely guided by the crew.

Back on board, warm drinks are served in the cozy saloon before the Captain presents each guest with a Cruise & Swim Certificate, a memorable souvenir from this truly unique Arctic adventure.
